Gp Capt Varun’s last rites to be performed in Madhya Pradesh Bhopal

The sole remaining survivor passed away: Group Captain Varun’s last rites are to be performed in Madhya Pradesh Bhopal in the capital Bhopal.

The mortal remains of Shaurya Chakra-recipient Group Captain Varun Singh – who succumbed in Bengaluru on Wednesday – are scheduled to be transferred on Thursday to the Madhya Pradesh capital.

“A military aircraft shall bring the body,” Collector Avinash Lavania confirmed. The officer was the son of city-resident Colonel KP Singh (Retd) who served with Army Air Defence. Gp Capt Singh’s sibling Lieutenant Commander Tanuj Singh is in the Indian Navy. “The cremation is to take place at the Bhadbhada Vishram Ghat,” retired Brigadier Vinayak Ramnarayan, Vishisht Seva Medal, told UNI. Gp Capt Singh was fatally injured in the Mi-17 V5 helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu that claimed the lives of India’s first Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, his spouse Mrs. Madhulika Rawat and others.

Group Capt Varun Singh was from Bhopal and graduated from NDA in 2003. He was commissioned as a fighter pilot in 2004 and mainly flew Jaguars and Tejas during his flying career: Indian Air Force.

Group Capt Varun Singh was an experimental test pilot and was conferred with the Shaurya Chakra on 15 Aug 2021. He was posted to Defence Services Staff College as an instructor when he passed away. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter: Indian Air Force
