In 2015, the Union Ministry of Social Justice announced the decision of the Center to celebrate November 26 as Constitution Day.<\/h2>\n
The reason for this was to promote constitutional values among citizens, according to a government website and November 26 as Constitution Day was to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. On November 26, 1949, the Constitution was adopted and it came into effect on January 26, 1950.<\/div>\n

On this day, Parliament will observe Constitution Day on Friday and President Ram Nath Kovind will lead the celebrations from the Central hall from 11 am onwards.<\/div>\n

Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, who became the first law minister of India in the Congress-led Centre, was appointed as the chairman of the constitution drafting committee in 1947 and was given the responsibility of writing the country\u2019s new constitution.<\/p>\n

American historian Granville Seward Austin has described the Constitution drafted by Ambedkar as \u2018first and foremost a social document\u2019.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also take part in the celebrations in Parliament and Vigyan Bhawan. Later in the day, PM Modi will inaugurate the two-day Constitution Day celebrations organised by the Supreme Court, at 5:30 pm in Vigyan Bhawan and he tweeted, “Best wishes to our citizens on Constitution Day.<\/p>\n

On this special day, sharing a part of Dr. Ambedkar\u2019s speech in the Constituent Assembly on 4th November 1948 in which he moved a motion for the adoption of the Draft Constitution as settled by the Drafting Committee.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Thirteen Opposition Partied Led By Congress Skip Celebrations<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A delegation of 13 opposition parties led by Congress will skip the Constitution Day celebrations in Parliament on Friday.<\/p>\n

The opposition parties skip the event to protest what they have said is the Center’s disrespect towards them, its refusal to their demands, and hastened passage of bills in Parliament.<\/p>\n

The Center has been accused of enabling intimidation on minorities, also with the series of laws passed, discriminatory laws passed instigating lynching of minorities.\u00a0 In 2020 alone, 67 journalists were arrested, detained, questioned in India for their work.<\/p>\n

India is established as one of the most dangerous countries for journalists trying to do their job properly.\u00a0 The 2021 World Press Freedom Index<\/a> produced by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), a French NGO, has again placed India at 142nd rank out of 180 countries.<\/p>\n
