Uttar Pradesh is soon going to perform a significant role in the defence sector with the plan to produce the next generation of BrahMos missiles in Lucknow, the capital of the state. The UP government will designate land and other facilities for this. The BrahMos Aerospace will manufacture the next generation BrahMos missile at the Lucknow node of the UP Defence Corridor.<\/p>\n
Dr Sudhir Kumar Mishra, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of BrahMos Aerospace met CM Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday. He said to the Chief Minister that there is a plan to produce 100 missiles of BrahMos in Lucknow in the next three years under the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. At present, these missiles are being manufactured in Nagpur and Hyderabad in the country.<\/p>\n
BrahMos missile manufacturing project in Uttar Pradesh’s Defence Corridor will provide direct employment to about 500 engineers and technicians and create \u00a0employment to approximately 15,000 people<\/p>\n
About 200 acres of land would be required for the production of next-generation BrahMos missiles. An investment of about Rs 300 crore will be required to complete this project. Civil construction work will start within three months from the date of availability of land.<\/p>\n
With the construction of BrahMos missile in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh will move fast towards becoming the country’s aerospace and defense hub. Lucknow will be established on the global map in the manufacturing sector. More than 200 industrial units involved in the manufacturing of various systems and sub-systems of BrahMos missile will also set up their production units near the project site.<\/p>\n
What is the BrahMos Missile?<\/strong><\/p>\n The BrahMos (designated PJ-10) is a medium-range ramjet supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or land. It is the fastest supersonic cruise missile in the world.<\/p>\n It is a joint venture between the Russian Federation’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya and India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), who joined together to form the BrahMos Aerospace.<\/p>\n It is based on the Russian P-800 Oniks cruise missile and other similar sea-skimming Russian cruise missile technology. The name BrahMos is a portmanteau formed from the names of two rivers, the Brahmaputra of India and the Moskva of Russia.<\/p>\n It is the world’s fastest anti-ship cruise missile in operation.\u00a0 \u00a0The land-launched and ship-launched versions are already in service. An air-launched variant of BrahMos appeared in 2012 and entered service in 2019.\u00a0 A hypersonic version of the missile, BrahMos-II, is also presently under development with a speed of Mach 7\u20138 to boost aerial fast strike capability. It was expected to be ready for testing by 2024.<\/p>\n
