The US visit will be PM Modi\u2019s first foreign visit in around six months. This will also be the first time he will be visiting the US after President Biden took over as president.<\/p>\n
The visit was undecided after uncertainty over Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga\u2019s visit given the explosive sensitive political situation in Tokyo.r<\/p>\n
The Indian and Australian teams were waiting for the announcement by Japan. Preparations are underway for the Quadrilateral Leadership Summit of Australia, India, Japan and the US. An advance team is in Washington DC to finalise logistics for the same.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Modi, according to sources, will tentatively hold a bilateral meeting with President Biden on September 23 and the Quad Summit is likely to be held on September 24, after which he will leave for New York to address the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 25.<\/p>\n
Earlier in an interview with India Today, the Indian envoy to the US, Ambassador Taranjit Sandhu had said that the Indian premier would travel to the country if the health situation permits.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the Quad Virtual Leaders\u2019 Summit held in March this year, the leaders agreed to hold an in-person summit by the end of 2021,\u201d he had said.<\/p>\n
There is likely to be a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA as well.<\/p>\n
Presently, the main focus for India would essentially be on the situation in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
