A police spokesman said on a tip-off about the presence of militants<\/a>, (RR), (SOG) of J&K police, and CRPF launched a joint Cordon and (CASO) at Vailoo Kokernag in Anantnag district.<\/h2>\n

Srinagar: An encounter is going on between militants and security forces in the south Kashmir district of Anantnag on Tuesday, a police spokesman said.<\/p>\n

He said on a tip-off about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, and CRPF launched a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Vailoo Kokernag in Anantnag district in the wee hours today.<\/p>\n

However, when security forces were moving towards a particular area in Vailoo after sealing all exit points, militants hiding there opened indiscriminate fire, he said adding security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter.<\/p>\n

Militants hiding in the area are being urged to surrender, he said adding the operation was going on when the reports last came in.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, additional security forces and police personnel have been deployed in the adjoining areas to prevent any law and order problems.<\/p>\n
