Meeran Haider, accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy, has withdrawn his bail plea from the Delhi High Court. His legal representative, Advocate Shri Singh, explained that the decision was made after the completion of the police investigation, with plans to seek bail directly from the trial court.<\/p>\n
The Division Bench comprising Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Girish Kathpaliya accepted Haider\u2019s request to withdraw, leading to the dismissal of the appeal. The case was scheduled for a hearing on October 7, alongside other related matters.<\/p>\n
Previously, Haider’s bail plea was rejected by the trial court in 2022, which prompted his appeal to the Delhi High Court. On May 20, 2022, the High Court issued a notice to the Delhi Police regarding the bail plea.<\/p>\n
The trial court had denied Haider\u2019s bail due to several reasons, including witness statements that implicated him in the conspiracy. The court ruled that physical presence at riot locations was not required to establish involvement in a conspiracy.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors have accused Haider of being involved with the Jamia Coordination Committee (JCC) and United Against Hatred (UAH) Okhla, as well as managing eight protest sites across Delhi. Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad further alleged that Haider collected and allocated funds to support the riots.<\/p>\n
