Union Home Minister Amit Shah<\/strong> chaired a crucial high-level meeting in the national capital on Sunday to assess the country’s preparedness for flood<\/a> management.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Key Attendees and Meeting Details<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Home Affairs<\/strong> in North Block, included key figures such as Union Minister of Jal Shakti<\/strong>, C R Patil, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, and Secretaries from various ministries<\/strong> including Home Affairs, Water Resources, River Development & River Rejuvenation, Earth Sciences, Environment, Forests & Climate Change, and Road Transport & Highways. Also present were the Chairman of the Railway Board, members and Secretary (I\/c) of NDMA, Director Generals of NDRF and IMD, and Chairmen of CWC and NHAI, along with other senior officers.<\/p>\n

States Facing Severe Weather Challenges<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The meeting underscored the severe weather challenges<\/strong> faced by states like Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Sikkim<\/strong>, which experience landslides and rain-related issues during the monsoon<\/strong>. Assam, currently battling floods, has seen lakhs of people affected across multiple districts. Cyclone Remal, last month, exacerbated the situation, causing widespread devastation in Tripura.<\/p>\n

Assam Flood Situation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In Assam, the floods<\/strong> have severely impacted the Nagaon district, affecting nearly 6,000 people and submerging 35 villages and 1,089 hectares of crop area under Kampur and Raha revenue circles. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), nearly 3 lakh people across 19 districts have been affected by the deluge. Specifically, Karimganj district has over 2.43 lakh affected individuals, with 979 villages under 48 revenue circles across the state experiencing flooding. The floodwaters have submerged 3,326.31 hectares of crop area in the affected districts.<\/p>\n

Impact of Cyclone Remal<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Cyclone Remal has intensified the rainfall in Assam, leading to severe flooding. The cyclone’s aftermath has resulted in the loss of more than 29 lives due to the floods.<\/p>\n
