China’s embassy<\/strong><\/a> in the Philippines has accused the U.S. military<\/strong> of “hypocrisy, malign intention, and double standards” following a report on a secret U.S. campaign aimed at undermining confidence in Chinese vaccines<\/strong> and other aid during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Chinese Embassy<\/strong> in Manila issued a statement on Tuesday in response to an investigative report that revealed the U.S. military had launched a clandestine program during the COVID-19 pandemic to discredit China’s Sinovac<\/strong> vaccine in the Philippines. The investigation uncovered that the U.S. military’s efforts involved creating fake internet accounts to impersonate Filipinos, transforming these propaganda efforts into an anti-vax campaign.<\/p>\n

“People around the world are indignant about the U.S. military’s actions, which lay bare the hypocrisy, malign intention, and double standards of the United States,” stated a spokesperson from the Chinese Embassy.<\/p>\n

“While talking about respecting human rights, the United States does just the opposite regarding the fundamental human rights of life and health of the Filipino people,” the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n

When approached for comment, the U.S. Embassy<\/strong> in Manila referred the request to the Department of Defense. According to the Reuters report, a senior Defense Department official admitted that the U.S. military engaged in covert propaganda to disparage China’s vaccine in the developing world but declined to provide further details.<\/p>\n

A Pentagon spokeswoman was cited in the report, saying the U.S. military “uses a variety of platforms, including social media, to counter those malign influence attacks aimed at the U.S., allies, and partners.” She also accused China of starting a “disinformation campaign to falsely blame the United States for the spread of COVID-19.”<\/p>\n
