Japan-Ukraine Conference Focuses on Economic Growth and Reconstruction<\/strong><\/p>\n

On February 19th, government representatives from Japan and Ukraine, alongside business organizations, convened in Tokyo for the Japan-Ukraine Conference for the Promotion of Economic Growth and Reconstruction.<\/p>\n

Led by Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, the Japanese government delegation pledged enduring support for Ukraine’s recovery through public-private partnerships. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal of Ukraine expressed gratitude for Japan’s assistance and encouraged Japanese businesses to invest in Ukraine’s reconstruction. Each delegation comprised over 100 government and corporate officials, totaling around 300 participants and 130 companies.<\/p>\n

The two governments committed to cooperation in seven key areas: land mine action and debris clearance, humanitarian aid and livelihood reconstruction, agricultural development, biotechnology, digital and information technology, transportation and energy infrastructure, and anti-corruption and governance-strengthening measures.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Kishida, in his keynote address, described supporting Ukraine’s recovery as an investment in the future, urging international contributions. He outlined new initiatives for Japan’s public and private sectors to assist Ukraine and announced eased entry visa requirements for Ukrainian citizens involved in cooperation projects.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Shmyhal expressed appreciation for Japan’s continued assistance and highlighted the conference as a crucial step in advancing bilateral relations. He emphasized the potential for Japanese businesses to contribute to the “Ukrainian economic miracle” and identified energy, agriculture, and infrastructure as promising sectors for investment.<\/p>\n

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation and underscored the role of the private sector in Ukraine’s reconstruction.<\/p>\n

The conference yielded 56 documents, including inter-governmental agreements. Notable agreements included a convention eliminating double taxation to facilitate Japanese investment in Ukraine, an agreement on bilateral crediting, and collaboration in education and technology.<\/p>\n

Additionally, deals were struck between government agencies, businesses, and organizations. Japanese companies committed to projects ranging from energy facilities development to infrastructure rebuilding and land mine removal in collaboration with Ukrainian counterparts.<\/p>\n

Japan’s consistent humanitarian aid to Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February 2022 has been bolstered by the public-private partnership announced at the conference. Leveraging its technological expertise and experience in post-disaster recovery, Japan aims to strengthen support for Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts.<\/p>\n
