After the passage of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) 2024 bill in the state assembly, the Uttarakhand Waqf Board addressed concerns regarding its alleged anti-Islamic nature, asserting that abiding by the UCC does not conflict with Islamic principles.<\/p>\n

Chairman of the Uttarakhand Waqf Board, Shadab Shams, clarified to ANI that the UCC bill does not interfere with Islamic faith. He emphasized that the bill, although facing rumors of being anti-Islamic, contains no provisions that contradict Islamic teachings.<\/p>\n

“As a devout Muslim myself, I affirm that there is no religious issue with adhering to the UCC. Those opposing it are not true adherents of Islam but rather politically motivated individuals associated with parties like the Congress or Samajwadi Party,” stated Shadab Shams.<\/p>\n

The UCC bill, passed with a comfortable majority during a special session of the Uttarakhand assembly, was hailed as a historic milestone by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. He underscored the legislation’s inclusive nature, fulfilling the government’s commitment to all sections of society.<\/p>\n

The bill proposes uniform laws applicable to all communities, covering aspects such as live-in relationships, marriage, divorce, and inheritance rights. It mandates registration of live-in relationships, sets the minimum marriage age at 18 for women and 21 for men across religions, and introduces measures to combat child marriage.<\/p>\n

Chief Minister Dhami assured that the UCC bill remains open to future amendments if necessary.
