On Tuesday, the Congress criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in the Lok Sabha on Monday, labeling it as “nonsensical” and “low-grade”. Several Congress leaders suggested that instead of selectively quoting Jawaharlal Nehru, a globally acknowledged intellectual giant, Prime Minister Modi should deepen his understanding by reading Nehru comprehensively. Others accused him of “duplicity” regarding democracy, corruption, and development. Some criticized his focus on dynasty, particularly targeting the Nehru-Gandhi family.<\/p>\n

Jairam Ramesh, the Congress communications chief, posted on X: “The Prime Minister’s speech in the Lok Sabha yesterday was nonsensical and will likely be repeated in the Rajya Sabha today. He attacks Nehru not politically, but personally, in a vicious manner, demonstrating deep insecurities and complexes. Unlike Vajpayee and Advani, Modi’s behavior demeans the office he holds. Megalomania and Nehruphobia are toxic, leading to the Murder Of Democracy in India. The people, especially the youth, have decided that this will be Modi\u2019s last speech in the Lok Sabha as Prime Minister. \u2018Das Saal Anyay Kaal\u2019 will soon come to an end.”<\/p>\n

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge challenged Modi’s dynasty jibe, daring him to name one family in the Sangh Parivar that has contributed to India\u2019s freedom and nation-building like the Nehru-Gandhi family. Rahul Gandhi questioned Modi’s remark about being the “biggest OBC”, emphasizing the importance of representation and social justice.<\/p>\n

Supriya Shrinate, a Congress spokesperson, accused Modi of lying about lifting 25 crore people out of poverty and raised concerns about India’s economic indicators and the Global Hunger Index. She criticized Modi’s speech as “low-grade” and lacking dignity, accusing him of being scared of protests across the country.<\/p>\n
