In a significant move, the Uniform Civil Code bill, aimed at establishing uniformity in marriage, divorce, land, property, and inheritance laws for all citizens regardless of their religion in Uttarakhand, was introduced in the state assembly on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the presenter of the bill in the House, made a symbolic entrance carrying an original copy of the Constitution.<\/p>\n

Following its introduction, the bill will undergo thorough debate and scrutiny in the assembly before potentially being enacted into law.<\/p>\n

This particular session of the state assembly was specially convened to address the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill.<\/p>\n

Upon its enactment, Uttarakhand will stand as the first state post-Independence to embrace the UCC, with Goa being the only other region where it has been in practice since the era of Portuguese governance.<\/p>\n
