In the midst of the chilling winter, the national capital woke up to shallow fog on Friday, leading to reduced visibility in various areas and causing disruptions to both flight and train services. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that isolated areas of Delhi and East Uttar Pradesh experienced a layer of fog, while dense fog was observed in isolated pockets of Haryana, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand.<\/p>\n
As of 11:30 pm on Thursday, visibility was recorded at 500 meters in Delhi’s Safdarjung and East Uttar Pradesh, with a significant drop to 50 meters in several areas of Haryana, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand.<\/p>\n
“Visibility recorded (at 2330 hours IST of today) (<=500 metres): Haryana: Hissar- 50; Rajasthan: Churu- 50; Jharkhand: Ranchi- 50; Delhi: Safdarjung- 500; East Uttar Pradesh: Gorakhpur & Varanasi (Babatpur)- 500 each,” mentioned the IMD in a post on a social media platform.<\/p>\n
Despite the cold weather, people were observed sitting near fires in the New Delhi Railway Station area to shield themselves from the biting cold.<\/p>\n
On February 1, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 12.3 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature reached 18.6 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n
The IMD has forecast ongoing light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms in various areas of Delhi-NCR. This follows unexpected rainfall in the city the previous day.<\/p>\n
“Currently, thunderstorms with moderate-intensity rain are occurring in many places of Delhi,” noted the IMD on a social media platform.<\/p>\n
“It will occur over and adjoining areas of Delhi–Narela, Bawana, Alipur, Burari, Rohini, Karawal Nagarand NCR–Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Gurugram and Manesar,” added the tweet.<\/p>\n
