Five days have passed since the tragic train accident at Bahanaga Bazar Railway station, and there are still 119 injured passengers receiving treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.<\/p>\n
The disastrous train accident that occurred on June 2nd involved the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, and a Goods train. It claimed the lives of 288 people, while over 1,000 passengers sustained injuries, some of them critical.<\/p>\n
According to official sources, 201 injured passengers were immediately taken to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. As of Wednesday, 82 of them have been discharged, but 119 individuals are still undergoing treatment in various departments such as Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Surgery, and Neurosurgery.<\/p>\n
Special medical teams have been assembled to provide care for the patients. It has been reported that 14 out of the 119 patients are currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).<\/p>\n
Bijay Amrut Kulange, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Commissioner, disclosed that out of the 193 bodies brought to Bhubaneswar, 82 remain unidentified. To address any potential disputes concerning body claims, DNA tests are being conducted for identification purposes.<\/p>\n
Kulange added, “We are also in close coordination with officials from different state governments, including West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and railway authorities, to expedite the identification and release of bodies to their respective relatives. Our aim is to ensure that each body is properly handed over to the rightful person.”<\/p>\n
