On Sunday, the Myanmar-Bangladesh coastline was hit by the extremely severe cyclonic storm “Mocha” with a maximum sustained wind speed exceeding 200 km\/h. This could lead to dangerous flooding in areas around the Bay of Bengal.<\/p>\n
The local administration reported that over 250 medical teams are on standby for any emergency arising due to the cyclone. Thus far, more than 400,000 individuals have been evacuated from the coastal regions of Cox\u2019s Bazar and Chattogram. The local administration is supplying dry food to those who have been evacuated and are residing in cyclone shelters in Cox\u2019s Bazar and Chattogram.<\/p>\n
According to the latest bulletin from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department at 10.30 a.m., the outer edge of the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Mocha is starting to cross Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh and the North Myanmar coast.<\/p>\n
The cyclone is expected to fully cross Cox\u2019s Bazar in Bangladesh and the North Myanmar coast near Sittwe by this afternoon, as per the latest bulletin from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department at 10.30 a.m.<\/p>\n
Under the peripheral impact of the cyclone, “The Cox\u2019s Bazar, Chattogram, and other coastal areas are experiencing intermittent rain and high-speed winds of 50-60 km\/h,” according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.<\/p>\n
The cyclone was centered at 9 a.m. on Sunday approximately 250 km from Cox’s Bazar, 335 km from Chattogram, 435 km from Mongla, and 350 km from Payra port, according to the latest bulletin from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.<\/p>\n
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) previously stated, “It is very likely to move north-northeastwards and cross southeast Bangladesh and north Myanmar coasts between Cox\u2019s Bazar (Bangladesh) and Kyaukpyu (Myanmar) as an extremely severe cyclonic storm 180-190 kmph gusting to 210 kmph.”<\/p>\n
In response to changing weather conditions, the IMD has issued rain and storm warnings for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, parts of Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, and Assam on May 14.<\/p>\n
The IMD has cautioned that loose\/unsecured structures may suffer minor damage, small trees may be uprooted or branches broken, and landslides may occur in vulnerable areas. Additionally, small trees like bananas in Mizoram, Tripura, and south Manipur may be damaged.<\/p>\n
The weather agency advised that fishermen, ships, boats, and trawlers should not venture into the east-central and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal and north Andaman Sea until May 14, as well as the northeast Bay of Bengal.<\/p>\n
The IMD predicts that maximum temperatures will rise in most parts of the country, with Central India experiencing an increase of 2-3 degrees Celsius during the next two days. In South India, the temperature is predicted to rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius in most regions over the next five days, while East India’s maximum temperature is expected to remain relatively unchanged.<\/p>\n
Heatwave conditions are anticipated in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha, with maximum temperatures settling 5-6 degrees above normal. “Heatwaves will sweep West Rajasthan, and the maximum temperature is likely to exceed 45 degrees Celsius,” according to the IMD.<\/p>\n
