Raising up its attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who has been asking the PM about his ‘relationship’ with billionaire businessman Gautam Adani, on Monday said that his fight is against the \u2018\u2019Mitr Kaal\u2019\u2019 to “save the democracy”.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a fight against Mitr Kaal to save democracy. In this struggle, truth is my weapon and it is something I rely upon,\u201d he wrote in a tweet in a veiled attack on PM Modi and Adani, shortly after a court in Gujarat\u2019s Surat extended his bail in a defamation case.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, the former Congress chief took a swipe at the PM over the Adani issue and said, \u2018\u2019Mr Prime Minister, it has been a long time since I have asked you a question. You have not replied to it yet, so I am repeating it again. Whose Rs 20,000 crore is it? Why is the money deposited in LIC, SBI, and EPFO being given to Adani? Tell the truth about your relationship with Adani to the country.\u201d<\/p>\n
He had earlier said, “I asked the PM a very set of questions. Rs 20,000 crore are in shell companies owned by Adani. He could not have generated this money? Where has this money come from? Whose money is this?<\/p>\n
There is a Chinese national involved in this. The whole game, disqualification and all the statements are to distract from the central question of whose Rs 20,000 crore it is.”<\/p>\n
The Congress has been spearheading the Opposition, demanding a JPC inquiry into the Hindenburg Research report over Adani Group that alleged it had engaged in stock manipulation and accounting fraud schemes over the course of decades. Last month, a Surat court convicted Gandhi in a defamation case for his “all thieves have Modi surname” remarks at a rally in Karnataka\u2019s Kolar in 2019. Later, he was disqualified from Lok Sabha as a member following his conviction in the case.<\/p>\n
