AAP has emerged victorious in the MCD elections by bagging 136 wards and celebrations are on in the national capital.<\/h2>\n

AAP ends BJP’s 15 year-rule in MCD, wins civic body poll with a majority.\u00a0\u00a0With an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) victory in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) poll, celebrations began at its office in New Delhi on Wednesday with supporters holding party flags distributing sweets, and dancing to the beat of drums.\u00a0 Woman mayor to lead civic body, says AAP bagging 136 wards<\/p>\n

The AAP emerged victorious in 136 wards, while the BJP bagged 100. The Congress was a distant third after winning ten wards, according to the latest counting trends.<\/p>\n

The air at the AAP’s office on Rouse Avenue was festive since morning with songs blaring through loudspeakers and the whole area decorated with bright colorful balloons.<\/p>\n

The MCD has 250 wards, and the simple majority mark is 126. As per figures available at 11:30 am, the AAP has crossed the magic number of 126 with 56 wins and a lead in 77 seats.<\/p>\n

It was earlier a tight contest with both the AAP and the BJP close on each other\u2019s heels. Both parties appeared confident of victory.<\/p>\n

Counting of votes for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD<\/a>) election began at 8 am on Wednesday. 42 centers have been set up for the counting amid tight security, officials said. Polling for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) took place on Sunday, December 4, with a voter turnout of 50.48 percent being recorded.<\/p>\n

The election was trumpeted to be a three-way contest between the AAP, BJP, and Congress. There are 250 wards in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and 1,349 candidates are in the fray in this election.<\/p>\n

Authorities had set up 13,638 polling stations across Delhi for the exercise.<\/p>\n

This was also the first civic polls held in the national capital after the February 2020 riots in Delhi, and according to data shared by officials, 3,360 booths, spanning 493 locations, were identified in critical or sensitive categories.<\/p>\n

The election this year was the first since the delimitation process, after three corporations of Delhi \u2013 NDMC, SDMC, and EDMC \u2013 were incorporated into the MCD, which formally came into existence on May 22.<\/p>\n
