Kupwara<\/a> Srinagar, security forces thwarted an infiltration bid when they shot down two militants near the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of Jammu and Kashmir\u2019s Kupwara district on Sunday, a defense ministry spokesman said.<\/p>\nHe said that founded on specific intelligence inputs received from Jammu and Kashmir Police and other intelligence agencies, of likely infiltration attempt in Macchal Sector. The troops were put on high alert and joint ambushes of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army laid on likely routes of infiltration, the spokesman said.<\/p>\n
He said at around 7.30 AM in the morning amid prevailing poor weather conditions, alert troops observed two armed infiltrators crossing the LoC near Tekri Nar, Macchal to this side.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe infiltrating terrorists were engaged by their own alert troops. A gun battle ensued, resulting in both terrorists getting neutralized\u201d, he said. A large number of arms and ammunition including 2 AK 47 rifles, 6 AK magazines, 53 Ak 47 rounds, Two pistols, two pistol magazines, 35 pistol rounds, Pak currency Rs 1000 three notes, Rs 500 two notes, Rs 50 seven notes besides food items were recovered from the slain militants. The identification and affiliation of the slain militants are being ascertained.<\/p>\n
