A high-speed dumper collided with a sugarcane-laden tractor-trolley and crushed the workers sleeping on a Surat footpath. 12 of them died on the spot.<\/h2>\n

Surat:<\/strong> Late night in Surat district of Gujarat, an uncontrolled vehicle<\/a> crushed 20 people sleeping on the roadside, 15 of whom died. Police said today that the incident occurred near Palod Gam on Kim-Mandvi road, about 50 km from here.<\/p>\n

The dead were identified as laborers from Kushalgarh in the Banswara district of Rajasthan. Children and women are also among the dead.<\/p>\n

Around midnight, a high-speed dumper collided with a sugarcane-laden tractor-trolley and crushed the workers. 12 of them died on the spot. Three of the eight injured died at the Smimer Hospital in Surat<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Police seize the dumper and apprehend its driver and cleaner. The driver was reportedly drunk. The matter is being investigated in detail.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his grief over the accident and announced a grant of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each for the injured.<\/p>\n
