Washington:<\/strong> The US administration has said Thursday that it would closely study the Chinese government’s crackdown on its Uyghur ethnic minority<\/a>. A government official of the United States has said it may even consider labeling such atrocities on Uyghur Muslims as ‘genocide’.<\/p>\n For a detailed investigation into various restrictions imposed on Uygur Muslims in China, a US administration official said on Thursday.<\/p>\n According to a report by the news agency Kyodo, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has appointed Morse Tan, the ambassador of international criminal justice, to investigate the persecution of Uyghur Muslims. Mr. Tan will review it in a limited time and submit his report soon.<\/p>\n National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien told an online think tank in October that ‘if not genocide, something close to it’ is taking place in Xinjiang.<\/p>\n In 2016, under the Obama administration, the United States declared that the Islamic State extremist group had committed genocide against religious minorities in areas under its control<\/a>, including Christians and Shiite Muslims.<\/p>\n\n
According to UN law, the genocide of people belonging to any minority community and measures taken to control its population would be considered genocide.<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n
