When the walls and windows were damaged at a neighbouring complex after the Noida twin towers made in nine years was brought down in nine seconds with 3,700 kg of explosives, some people were upset with the demolition. Officials involved with the operation had earlier said about 55,000 tonnes of debris would be generated.\u00a0 It would take up to three months to clear the debris. The waste will be dumped at designated areas.<\/p>\n
The quantity of explosives used in this demolition is equivalent to 3 warheads of Agni-V missile or 12 of the BrahMos missile with Rs. 500 crores blown down the drain with the demolition of Supertech\u2019s twin towers in Noida.<\/p>\n
The 100-metre tall Supertech twin towers’ demolition in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida went according to plan, said a top official in charge of the operation, adding that a boundary wall and some glass windows were damaged at a neighbouring society as the towers came down.<\/p>\n
“A 10-metre boundary wall collapsed and some glass windows were shattered at ATS village. Supertech Emerald (another neighbouring society) did not suffer any damage,” said DCP S Rajesh, in charge commander of the demolition operation.<\/p>\n
Water sprinklers and anti-smog guns have already been brought in at the site to mitigate dust, an official said.<\/p>\n
The demolition caps a nine-year legal battle between residents of Supertech Emerald Court in Sector 93A and the realtor over the two towers.<\/p>\n
In August 2021, the Supreme Court ordered the demolition of the structures as their construction violated the minimum distance requirement. According to the court, the buildings were built illegally without taking the consent of the individual flat owners as required under the UP Apartment Act.<\/p>\n
The apex court also said Supertech and the Noida Authority engaged in a \u201cnefarious complicity\u201d. It then ordered Supertech to demolish the buildings at its expense, under the guidance of the Noida Authority.<\/p>\n
The Supreme Court\u2019s decision comes after a number of petitions by homebuyers.<\/p>\n
The buildings were to be demolished in May, which was later postponed to August 21. Recently, the Supreme Court also extended the deadline to August 28, with a band of 7 days till September 4 due to technical issues and weather conditions.<\/p>\n
