UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed that all countries should come forward to save the planet for their future generations<\/h2>\n

United Nations:<\/strong> UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres addressed the 2020 Climate Change Summit, stating that a climate emergency should be declared until we achieve “carbon neutrality” status.<\/p>\n

Mr. Guterres said, “Today I appeal to leaders from all over the world to declare a “climate emergency” until they achieve carbon neutrality status in their countries.<\/p>\n

The United Nations, Britain, and France hosted the 2020 summit on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Paris Agreement. The participants of the summit focused on measures to address climate change.<\/p>\n

The Secretary-General stressed that all countries should come forward to save the planet for future generations. “I urge everyone to show determination and prevent exploitation of our land,” he said. “We need to ensure the future of our children and grandchildren,” he added.<\/p>\n

He hoped that the global community could achieve “carbon neutrality” if global emissions were reduced by 45% from 2010 levels by 2030.<\/p>\n

The Paris Agreement was adopted by 196 countries as an international agreement on climate change on 12 December 2015 and entered into force on 4 November 2016.<\/p>\n
