Ehsan Jafri, a former Congress parliamentarian, was among the 69 residents of the Gulbarg housing complex in Ahmedabad who was dragged out of his house by the enraged Hindutva mob, paraded him naked, chopped off his legs, and burned him alive during the Gujarat riots of February 2002.<\/p>\n
Today, the Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the plea filed by Zakia Jafri, widow of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, challenging the clean chit given to the then chief minister Narendra Modi in 2002 Gujarat riots by Special Investigation Team (SIT).<\/p>\n
The Supreme Court maintained that Zakia\u2019s appeal was devoid of merits and deserves to be dismissed.<\/p>\n
A bench presided by Justice A M Khanwilkar upheld the decision of the Ahmedabad metropolitan magistrate to accept the closure report submitted by the SIT \u2013 which was appointed by the top court \u2013 and reject the protest petition filed by Jafri against accepting the report.<\/p>\n
The Supreme Court held that Zakia\u2019s appeal was \u201cdevoid of merits and deserves to be dismissed\u201d.<\/p>\n
The SIT declares it had \u201cfaithfully investigated everything\u201d.<\/p>\n
