In Udhampur district, a 150-feet stretch of the Jammu-Srinagar highway was washed away on Wednesday near Toldi Nallah, 16 kilometers away from Udhampur town, even as landslides in Ramban and Udhampur districts forced the closure of the strategic road for the second consecutive day<\/p>\n
The continuous rains and snow were experienced after many decades in June and the fall in temperature was registered after many years with the levels of water rising dangerously in the Jhelum River at Sangam in South Kashmir as well as at Ram Munshibagh in Srinagar, the spot where the water level is measured during floods.<\/p>\n
An official of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department confirmed that the River Jhelum has already crossed the 21-feet-mark when the flood is declared at Sangam in South Kashmir and at 3 pm, was flowing at 21.32.<\/p>\n
According to data available with the India Meteorological Department, Srinagar, the coldest recorded June day was in 2015 when the mercury had settled at a high of 15.2 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n
Residents from various areas of the valley, including Goripora in Bemina Srinagar, were seen toiling after continuous heavy rains which have immersed their homes ruining their household goods.<\/p>\n
In the Tral area of the Pulwama district, inhabitants of the Chandrigam area were worried after a sinkhole spread on the Chander-ara bridge. As per reports, the bridge was constructed in 2016 and was made operational in 2019.<\/p>\n
In view of the heavy rains, authorities had declared schools closed for the day in Ramban, Kulgam, Anantnag, Shopian, Pulwama, Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara districts on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
