The USA while claiming t be a great democracy also cannot tolerate freedom of the press and exposure of their government.<\/p>\nThe prime minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese has been urged to put an end to the Julian Assange \u201cmadness\u201d and intervene to stop his extradition to the US.\u00a0 In fact, Julian Assange’s extradition sends shockwaves over the world as to the death of the freedom of the press.<\/p>\n
Independent MP and strong supporter of the WikiLeaks founder, Andrew Wilkie said it was time for the Prime Minister to leverage Australia\u2019s relationship with the US to bring him home.\u00a0 Andrew Wilkie says the Prime Minister must intervene.<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t wait till Monday, Albo \u2026 this has gone long enough,\u201d Mr. Wilkie told reporters in Hobart on Saturday.\u00a0 He said, \u201cI have no doubt that Anthony Albanese has enough influence over the British prime minister to bring this to an end if he picks up the phone and say \u2013 \u2018end this madness.<\/p>\n
Julian Assange has spent more than a decade trying to avoid extradition from the UK.<\/p>\n
On Friday, UK Home Secretary Priti Patel crashed his hopes by approving his extradition to the US where he is wanted over the leak of classified documents.<\/p>\n
Last year, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he couldn\u2019t see the point of keeping the WikiLeaks founder locked up and when questioned about Mr Assange at a press conference earlier this month, the Australian Prime Minister said \u201cnot all foreign affairs is best done with the loud hailer\u201d.<\/p>\n
Overnight, Mr Assange\u2019s wife said she hoped the Prime Minister would put his talk into action.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Australian Prime Minister has expressed in the past his view of this prosecution, of Julian\u2019s imprisonment and I hope the Australian government can follow through on its principles,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Legal Adviser to the Australian Assange Campaign, Greg Barns, said government influence wasn\u2019t without precedent, pointing to the return of David Hicks \u2013 who was detained by the US in Guantanamo Bay.<\/p>\n
\u201cAustralia can use its extra relationship with Washington to bring an Australian back to safety,\u201d Mr. Barns said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe saw it with David Hicks almost 20 years now who found himself in Guantanamo Bay.<\/p>\n

In a statement late on Friday evening, Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong and Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus said the case had dragged on for far too long.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will continue to convey our expectations that Mr. Assange is entitled to due process, humane and fair treatment, access to proper medical care, and access to his legal team,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Australian government has been clear in our view that Mr. Assange\u2019s case has dragged on for too long and that it should be brought to a close.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will continue to express this view to the governments of the United Kingdom and the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n
If Julian Assange is handed over to the US, who incidentally is not even a US citizen, this gives all global leaders the power to punish their whistleblowers from any country, and sources predict that Mr. Assange would be killed on his return.<\/p>\n
