A Supreme Court bench of Justices L N Rao and B R Gavai ordered a halt of all demolition activities in North West Delhi\u2019s Jahangirpuri<\/a> area stating that it would \u201ctake a serious view of all demolitions that took place in Jahangirpuri after the Supreme Court decision was communicated to the mayor\u201d. The bench also issued notice to the NDMC in the petition filed by the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind and sought its reply within two weeks.<\/p>\n Justices L N Rao and B R Gavaisays \u2018will take a serious view of all action after the status quo order was passed.\u00a0 The day before on Wednesday, the demolition, which started around 10.15 am, went on for two hours despite the Supreme Court\u2019s directions at 11 am that the status quo be maintained.<\/p>\n The bench started hearing the case related to the demolition drive in Jahangirpuri at 11 am today. Hit by communal violence days earlier, the area in North West Delhi saw seven bulldozers roll into the neighborhood on orders of the BJP-led North Delhi Municipal Corporation, razing parts of several structures, including the exterior gate of a place of worship. The demolition, which started around 10.15 am, went on for two hours despite the Supreme Court\u2019s directions at 11 am that the status quo be maintained.<\/p>\n Congress leaders who had visited Jahangirpuri were stopped from meeting the demolition victims on Wednesday when at around 11:00 a.m., the Congress leaders started to arrive.<\/p>\n Former Congress MLA Hari Shankar Gupta was the first to reach. \u201cOur purpose here is to meet the people and see what the state of affairs is,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n A bigger delegation from the party reached Kushal Chowk at around 12.15 pm. Ajay Maken and Haroon Yusuf were among those who came, but they were not permitted to meet those whose stalls and properties had been removed on Wednesday.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is no policy which says demolitions can be done without prior notice. We want to tell people that this incident should not be looked at through the prism of religion,\u201d Maken said.<\/p>\n The police in the morning had placed extra barricades to stop access for the media and locals to the mosque site and the area where buildings were razed. Congress leader Anil Chaudhary sat in protest against the police for not allowing them to meet people. He left after several requests from the police.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were given permission and we came here to appeal for peace. The people of Delhi do not want to fight with each other. It was the BJP\u2019s conspiracy\u2026because of anger against the BJP due to issues like the price rise. They got zero seats in the bye-election\u2026It is due to their conspiracy that the violence took place. But now people are very cooperative. We came here and appealed for peace,\u201d said Congress MP Shaktisinh Gohil.<\/p>\n Two AAP MLAs, Sanjeev Jha, and Pawan Kumar Sharma visited the site later on Wednesday.<\/p>\n \u201cThe BJP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi is to blame for first allowing encroachment and then removing it in this way. If they wanted to remove the encroachment, they have the right to but not without following due process. They want to fan the flames of unrest,\u201d Sharma said.<\/p>\n Asaduddin Owaisi<\/a> also accused BJP and AAP of playing politics on the Jahangirpuri issue. He also asked why Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is \u2018shying away from visiting the area\u2019.<\/p>\n National Commission for Minorities (NCM) member Syed Shahzadi on Thursday said the panel will submit a report to the government on the communal violence in Delhi\u2019s Jahangirpuri area and recommend appropriate action.\u00a0\u00a0The chairman of the NCM and other members visited Jahangirpuri, she said<\/p>\n JNU-NSUI firmly stands with the Muslims of the country.
