The body of Naveen<\/a> S G, who was killed in Ukraine on March 1 in Russian shelling will be donated to a medical college, his father said.<\/p>\n The family of 21-year-old Indian student Naveen Ganagoudar\u00a0 Shekharappa who was killed in Ukraine said they will donate his body to medical college.<\/p>\n \u201cMy son wanted to achieve in the medical field, but he could not. Now, let his body help other students,\u201d his father Shekarappa Goudar said. Naveen, who was studying at Kharkiv National Medical University, was killed when he stepped out to buy groceries. He was the first Indian casualty of Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n His body, airlifted to Dubai on Saturday, reached Bengaluru early Monday. Goudar said the body would be donated to SS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in Davanagere after the family performs rituals.<\/p>\n Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai was among others who paid his last respects to the student. He was killed on March 1 in Kharkiv city of Ukraine<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cIt’s unfortunate that we lost him in the shelling,” news agency ANI quoted Karnataka CM Bommai as saying.<\/p>\n Earlier in the day, Bommai also voiced his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the same. “With the effort of your good self, the Naveen Shekharappa mortal remains are coming on Monday,” Bommai wrote in a letter to the Prime Minister.<\/p>\n Naveen Ganagoudar\u00a0 Shekharappa was reportedly standing in a queue to buy food when he was killed in Russian shelling in Ukraine, probably the only Indian who died in Ukraine amid war and constant shelling, a final year MBBS student at Kharkiv National Medical University.<\/p>\n The 21-year-old was a resident of Karnataka\u2019s Haveri district, known to be quiet, gentle, and a good student and would-be doctor, he was a great loss to India.<\/p>\n MLA Dr Sudhakar K tweeted, “Along with CM @BSBommai, received the mortal remains of Naveen Shekarappa at the Kempe Gowda International Airport early this morning.
