Geolocation shows Russia has been shelling civilians in Kharkiv, Ukraine and there are people in hospitals too sick to be moved.\u00a0 Civilians are being attacked from all sides and the \u00a0Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine was set in flames though fortunately, they were able to smother out the fire.<\/p>\n
Zelensky calls it ‘nuclear terror’: following nuclear plant attack and in the meantime, 1 million new refugees have fled Ukraine while the world remains aghast at the terrors in\u00a0 Ukraine. Urban centers are being attacked. Civilians, including children, are being killed.<\/p>\n
While millions around the world watch, angered, the world is still letting it happen as they always do.\u00a0 While some groups of people may be whitewashing Putin’s move, everyone can see it was a serious act of aggression to trigger something bigger.\u00a0 The Russians are victims of his aggression back home too, they know better.<\/p>\n
In spite of all this, Joe Biden has repeatedly said the United States will not send troops to Ukraine. As a matter of fact, the United States actually removed its troops who were engaged in training from Ukraine once it knew Russia was advancing its troops.<\/p>\n
Putin’s advocates call it \u201csound\u201d foreign policy and many do not believe he will resort to nuclear war but rather he is right in defending his borders and preventing Ukraine from joining the “big bullies in NATO”.\u00a0 No one is willing to reason that Putin’s risks outweigh his benefits.\u00a0 One war cannot be made against the gray backdrop of the wrong foreign policies and wars in the past, be it Libya, Afghanistan, Palestine, and others. Remember, Afghanistan?<\/p>\n
Ukraine is not a member of NATO. Its neighbors Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania are which they joined at the end of the Cold War. Now, if Russia attacks any of those nations, the United States and the other 29 members of NATO are obligated by Article 5 to consider it an attack on themselves and to defend that member state.<\/p>\n
Since Ukraine is not a member of NATO, the 29 countries are not bound to protect Putin knows this and at the same time, Biden and the leaders of NATO are hoping that knowledge will keep Putin from going farther than Ukraine.<\/p>\n
Realpolitik is weighing the situation, watching, and waiting which is why they are not acting amid heavy shelling promting the Ukrainian President to declare martial law and global voices declaring, “Putin has has decided to destroy the whole world’.\u00a0 Still there is no action against Putin.<\/p>\n
Considering the risk of two nuclear powers destroying human life on earth, is it worth trying to get involved in the war? Is the world waiting to see how far Putin will go? Is it their need of oil that holds them back.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, sanctions speak powerfully though while devoid of military confrontation, still are lethal. Freezing accounts hurt, and shelling business, sports, arts and cultural institutions cause collateral damage.\u00a0 However, still buying oil from Russia<\/a> is actually helping to fund the war, so the world is not doing enough to stop the war and the world leaders are miscalculating the ramifications of Putin’s strategy with half of them even secretly eulogizing him.\u00a0 This is the greatest danger.
