Under new changes in the UAE, fine on drinking and selling alcohol for people of 21 years old and above has been abolished; unmarried couples are allowed to live together<\/h2>\n

Abu Dhabi:<\/strong> The United Arab Emirates has drastically eased the laws on unmarried couples to live together and alcohol-related restrictions, making an extraordinary change in personal law on personal matters.<\/p>\n

According to a report by Al Jazeera, the so-called “honor killing” would be a felony under the new laws. The government said that this legal reform is mainly part of efforts to strengthen “principles of tolerance” and improve the country’s investment environment.<\/p>\n

As part of the new changes, fines on drinking and selling alcohol for people of 21 years or older have been eliminated. The legal reforms were announced yesterday on the government news agency WEM and detailed in the official newspaper The National.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the UAE, citizens were required to have liquor licenses to buy, transport, keep in their homes, or drink liquor, the new law would allow them to drink freely.<\/p>\n

Another amendment allows “arbitrary for unmarried couples” which has long been a crime in the United Arab Emirates. According to The National, there will be harsher penalties for men who harass women in any way.<\/p>\n
